• Lower accommodation prices: With fewer tourists, hotels and other stays are usually more affordable in October.
• Easier driving and parking: Since there are not as many visitors as in summer, it’s easier to find parking, driving is less stressful, and parking fees are often cheaper too.
• Most places are still open: While some hotels and restaurants start closing at the end of October or in November, for most of the month you can still enjoy full access. This is a big advantage compared to the winter months.

• Some places may close in late October: By the end of the month, some hotels and restaurants may already close for the season, so you will find fewer options compared to summer or early fall.
• Shorter daylight: In October, the sun sets around 6–7 pm on the Amalfi Coast, so you have fewer daylight hours than in spring or summer. At the end of October, the clock change also takes place, which means it can already get dark around 5 pm on the last days of the month.

The sea temperature is usually between 19–24°C (66–75°F), which already feels a bit cold for swimming. The water also gets cooler towards the end of the month.

For women, dresses, skirts, and stylish pants are perfect. For men, shorts or light trousers with t-shirts or shirts work well. In the evenings it can feel cooler, so bring a sweater or even a light jacket.

The downside: they are very expensive, often around €250–350 for a dress. If that price doesn’t bother you, go for it – they are stunning.

Amalfi

Amalfi town is full of charm with its narrow streets, cozy shops, and the stunning Amalfi Cathedral. Walk along the harbor for great views, then hike up to Torre dello Ziro or Veliero del Belvedere for amazing panoramas. For dinner, try Pizzeria Donna Stella, where you can enjoy authentic Italian food under lemon trees.

Ravello

Here are my suggestions:

Sorrento

A lively town known as the gateway to the Amalfi Coast. It has a beautiful old town, sea views, and it’s famous for limoncello.

Capri

A stunning island with luxury shops, the famous Blue Grotto, and amazing viewpoints like Monte Solaro. Perfect for a full-day trip by ferry.

Procida

A small, colorful island close to Naples. Less touristy than Capri, Procida charms visitors with pastel houses, authentic vibes, and quiet beaches.

Is October still crowded on the Amalfi Coast?

At the beginning of October, you’ll still see many tourists, but as the month goes on, the crowds slowly get smaller. Overall, October is still a busy month, and I’ll be honest—I’ve run into surprisingly large tourist groups in October, especially in the most famous spots.

That said, no matter how crowded it feels, it’s usually less than in the summer peak.

So yes, you can expect plenty of tourists in October, but in my opinion, it’s still a much better choice than visiting during high season.

Best time to visit the Amalfi Coast: What else if not October?

October is definitely one of the best months for any European trip, including Italian destinations. The only downside can be the rain, but if you get lucky with the weather, October is an excellent choice thanks to lower prices and fewer crowds.

But if you can’t travel in October, you might wonder: what are the other ideal months to visit the Amalfi Coast?

Personally, my favorites are May, June, and September.

• In May, the weather is already pleasant, perfect for sightseeing and taking beautiful photos. Prices are usually more affordable compared to the high season.
• In June, it can be busier and hotel rates higher, but the weather already feels summery without being too hot. The first half of June is especially a great time to visit the Amalfi Coast – and Italy in general.
• September is another favorite month for European trips, and I highly recommend it for the Amalfi Coast too. While crowds and prices can still be a challenge, the second half of September is a very good choice if you don’t plan to spend much time on the beach.

So, if not October, my personal recommendation would be: the whole month of May, the first half of June, or the second half of September.

What to pack for the Amalfi Coast in October

Since October weather on the Amalfi Coast can be changeable, it’s smart to pack a variety of clothes. You may experience warm summer-like days but also cooler autumn rain. What you pack also depends on your plans: does your hotel have a pool, will you go hiking, do you want to dine in elegant places, and are you traveling by car or public transport?

Here are the basics I recommend packing (but of course, the list can change based on your trip):

• Comfortable shoes: You’ll do a lot of walking in Amalfi Coast towns, often on cobblestone streets and stairs. Bring your most comfortable summer shoes. If you plan to hike in the mountains, proper hiking shoes are a must.
