September 22, 2026

Planning a trip to Alberobello but not sure where to stay?

This guide will help you find some of the best-value places to stay in one of Puglia’s most popular destinations.

Alberobello is one of the most unique and famous places in Puglia, Southern Italy. Just look at a few photos and you’ll probably understand why. Its traditional trulli (trullo in singular), whitewashed streets, Southern Italian atmosphere, and local food attract more and more visitors every year.

And with so many trulli, hotels, apartments, and countryside stays to choose from, deciding where to stay in Alberobello isn’t always easy.

In this guide, I’ll show you 8 of the best places to stay in Alberobello, plus 4 more options nearby, from traditional trulli to comfortable hotels and countryside stays. I’ll also explain which areas are best, whether staying in a trullo is actually worth it, and where to stay if you prefer to use another town as your base.

Let’s get started!

Quick guide to where to stay in Alberobello

If you want a quick answer, here are my top recommendations for where to stay in Alberobello:

Best areas to stay in Alberobello

There are three main options when choosing where to stay: inside the Trullis Zone, on the outskirts of Alberobello, or in another nearby town.

Trullis Zone: Best for the full Alberobello experience

The Trullis Zone is the historic heart of Alberobello, with entire streets lined with the town’s famous whitewashed trulli.

I recommend staying here if you want the full experience and would like to spend a night inside a traditional trullo. The main downsides are higher prices, more basic accommodation for your money, and more difficult parking.

Outskirts of Alberobello: Best if you’re traveling by car

Personally, this is my favorite option, especially if you find accommodation with private parking.

You’ll still be close to the historic center, but arriving by car and taking day trips is much easier. You can also often get more space and better value than in the Trullis Zone.

Nearby towns: Best for a longer Puglia road trip

You don’t necessarily need to stay in Alberobello. It’s easy to visit as a day trip from places like Bari, Polignano a Mare, Locorotondo, and Ostuni, especially if you’re traveling by car.

This can be a better option on a longer Puglia road trip if you prefer to use one town as a base for several days.

Best places to stay in Alberobello

If you’re planning to spend one or two nights in Alberobello, staying in the town itself is an obvious choice.

For the full Alberobello experience, you can spend the night in a traditional trullo. However, if you prefer a more modern hotel or simply want better value for your money, you’ll find several other options below.

Is it worth staying in a trullo in Alberobello?

Yes, I think staying in a trullo is worth trying at least once for the experience.

Just keep in mind that trulli are old buildings, so you may have to compromise on comfort and modern facilities, even at higher prices. Still, if you’ve always wanted to sleep in a traditional trullo, I would definitely try it for a night.

Best trulli in Alberobello

Best overall: Romantic Trulli

With so many trulli to choose from in Alberobello, picking just one isn’t easy, but Romantic Trulli is probably one of the best-known options in town.

It’s a high-quality trullo stay and particularly popular on social media thanks to its excellent location and beautiful, atmospheric interiors.

It’s not cheap, but if you want an iconic trullo experience without giving up too much comfort, Romantic Trulli is my top overall choice in Alberobello.

Best for couples: Trullo Soave Relax & Wellness

Trullo Soave Relax & Wellness is a high-end trullo in Alberobello’s historic center, within walking distance of the main sights.

I especially recommend it for couples thanks to its privat spa facilities, intimate atmosphere, and excellent reviews. It’s not cheap, but you’ll have an entire trullo to yourselves, making it a great choice for a romantic stay.

Best value trullo: Trulli Arborea

Finding an affordable trullo in Alberobello without major compromises can be difficult, but Trulli Arborea offers good value for money.

It’s in a quiet area on the northern outskirts, still close to the main sights, and has private parking. With its traditional interiors, excellent reviews, and reasonable prices, it’s a great choice for an atmospheric trullo stay.

Best affordable trullo: i Trulli del Fauno

i Trulli del Fauno is located just outside Alberobello, a short drive from the historic center. It offers a peaceful countryside setting, traditional trullo atmosphere, and excellent guest reviews.

If you have a car and want an affordable trullo without compromising too much on quality, this is one of the options I would consider.

Best hotels in Alberobello

If a traditional trullo isn’t your priority, there are also some good hotel and guesthouse options in Alberobello. These are the ones I would consider:

Best luxury hotel: Le Alcove – Luxury Hotel nei Trulli

Le Alcove – Luxury Hotel nei Trulli is one of Alberobello’s best luxury stays, right in the center and within walking distance of the main sights. It combines the traditional trullo experience with high-end comfort and service.

It’s expensive, but if your budget allows it, this is one of my top choices. The main downside is the lack of private parking, so you’ll need to use a nearby public parking area if you arrive by car.

Best mid-range hotel: ARBORIS BELLI Hotel

ARBORIS BELLI Hotel is a four-star hotel in a quieter part of Alberobello, still close to the main sights. It offers modern rooms, good reviews, and better value than many luxury trullo stays.

I particularly recommend it if you’re traveling by car and want a comfortable, modern hotel outside the historic center.

Best affordable stay: Palazzo D’Azeglio

Palazzo D’Azeglio is one of my favorite affordable options in Alberobello, offering modern, stylish interiors at a relatively low price.

Some of the more expensive rooms also have a private terrace with beautiful views over the town. If you want a modern stay without spending too much, this is a great choice.

Best masseria near Alberobello: Masseria Pentima Vetrana Resort

A masseria is a traditional farmhouse or country estate typical of Puglia, many of which have now been converted into hotels and resorts.

If you’d like to try this style of accommodation near Alberobello without spending too much, Masseria Pentima Vetrana Resort is worth considering. It’s a relatively simple property rather than a luxury masseria, but offers a peaceful countryside alternative to staying in town.

How many nights should you stay in Alberobello?

I think 1–2 nights in Alberobello are more than enough for most travelers. The town is small and easy to explore, so I would spend the rest of your trip visiting other places around Puglia.

For a longer Puglia road trip, there are several good places nearby where you can stay instead.

Where to stay if you don’t want to stay in Alberobello

Staying in one of the surrounding towns can be a good alternative to Alberobello. You can often find better prices and sometimes more modern hotels, while still being within easy driving distance of Alberobello and other places in Puglia.

Here are some of the hotels I recommend in the area:

Locorotondo: Ottolire Resort

Locorotondo is a lively small town in a very central location, making it a good base if you want to visit several places around Puglia. Its historic center is worth visiting in its own right, although many of the best hotels are located outside the town in the surrounding countryside.

You’ll find plenty of trulli around Locorotondo as well, but one of my top choices is Ottolire Resort, a four-star hotel with plenty of facilities in a peaceful countryside setting.

Martina Franca: Dimora Lucia Hotel

Martina Franca is a lively town near Locorotondo, where accommodation can be more affordable than in Alberobello. We’ve stayed here ourselves partly for this reason.

For a simple, budget-friendly option, I recommend the three-star Dimora Lucia Hotel. It has private parking and is a convenient base for exploring the surrounding towns by car.

Bari: IRON Hotel

Bari is the capital of Puglia and one of the region’s main transport hubs. It’s also worth spending a night or two here if you want to explore the city itself.

Hotel prices in Bari can be higher than in the smaller towns, so I recommend comparing your options carefully before booking.

One option to consider is the three-star IRON Hotel. It’s relatively close to the city center and train station, and its parking also makes it a practical choice if you’re traveling by car.

Polignano a Mare: Cala Ponte, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Along with Alberobello, I think Polignano a Mare is one of the most picturesque places in Puglia and a must-see on a first trip to the region.

For accommodation, I recommend Cala Ponte, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, a five-star hotel on the outskirts of town. It’s close to both the coast and the main road, making it convenient for a Puglia road trip. Prices can also be relatively reasonable for a five-star hotel, so it’s a great choice if your budget allows it.

What to know before booking accommodation in Alberobello

There are a few things worth knowing before you book your accommodation in Alberobello.

Book weeks or even months in advance

Accommodation in Alberobello is becoming increasingly popular, and the best options can be difficult to find during the high season.

If you already know your travel dates, I recommend booking at least a few weeks in advance, or even several months ahead for a summer trip. This is especially important if you want to stay in a particular trullo or find a good-value option close to the historic center.

Consider traveling in the shoulder season

Spring and autumn are much more comfortable for sightseeing than the hottest summer months, so these are the seasons I generally recommend for Alberobello.

Hotel prices don’t always follow the pattern you might expect, though. From what I’ve personally noticed, May and October often have lower prices, while June and September can be more expensive. Prices can sometimes drop again during the hottest part of summer.

This is only my personal observation, and prices can change significantly depending on your exact dates, so it’s always worth comparing a few different periods if your trip is flexible.

Trulli are romantic, but they have some disadvantages

Staying in a trullo sounds incredibly romantic, and it can certainly be a special experience. But it’s worth knowing what you’re paying for.

Many trulli are very old buildings, and even some expensive ones can feel quite dated or have relatively basic facilities compared with a modern hotel at the same price.

The romantic photos don’t always tell the whole story. Some trulli can feel much more old-fashioned in reality, so I recommend checking recent photos, facilities, and guest reviews carefully before booking. I’ve tried to include some of the better options in this guide.

Pay attention to parking

If you’re arriving by car, always check where you’ll be able to park before booking your accommodation.

Staying in or around the historic center can mean using one of Alberobello’s public parking areas rather than parking directly at your accommodation. This can make your stay less convenient and add another expense.

For a Puglia road trip, I often prefer accommodation slightly outside the center with its own parking. You can still reach Alberobello’s main sights easily, while arriving, leaving, and taking day trips is much simpler.

FAQ about staying in Alberobello

Here are a few more things you may want to know before choosing where to stay in Alberobello.

What is the best area to stay in Alberobello?

Personally, I prefer the outskirts of Alberobello or nearby towns such as Locorotondo and Martina Franca.

You can still reach Alberobello’s main sights quickly, while accommodation can offer better value and, if you’re traveling by car, easier parking.

If your main reason for staying overnight is the experience of sleeping in a traditional trullo, however, staying in the historic part of Alberobello makes more sense.

Is it better to stay in a trullo or a hotel?

I’ve stayed in both, and there are advantages to each.

A trullo is definitely the more unique experience, but even some of the more expensive ones can feel quite dated. Personally, I prefer modern accommodation, so I would usually choose a good hotel.

However, if this is your first trip to Alberobello and you’ve always wanted to sleep in a traditional trullo, staying in one for a night can still be worth it for the experience.

Is one night in Alberobello enough?

Yes, I think one night is enough for most travelers.

Alberobello is small and easy to explore on foot, and you can see its main sights in half a day to a full day. Staying overnight gives you some extra time to enjoy the town without having to rush, but you don’t necessarily need several nights here on a Puglia road trip.

Is Alberobello a good base for exploring Puglia?

Alberobello can work as a base, but personally, I wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay.

Accommodation here is often more expensive because you’re paying a premium for staying in such a famous tourist destination. If you’re only going to spend one or two days exploring Alberobello itself, I don’t think there’s much reason to pay that premium for the rest of your trip when you’ll be visiting other parts of Puglia anyway.

For a longer stay, I would consider somewhere like Locorotondo, which has a convenient location for exploring the Valle d’Itria, or the area around Bari if your itinerary includes more destinations across Puglia.

Do you need a car in Alberobello?

You don’t need a car to explore Alberobello itself. The historic center is compact, and the main sights are easy to reach on foot.

For exploring the rest of Puglia, however, I recommend renting a car. It gives you much more flexibility to visit smaller towns, countryside areas, and other destinations around the region.

Final thoughts on where to stay in Alberobello

Alberobello has plenty of accommodation options, but I would choose carefully depending on the type of trip you’re planning.

For a special experience, spending one night in a traditional trullo is definitely worth considering. If comfort, parking, or value for money matters more to you, I would look at modern hotels on the outskirts or even stay in a nearby town.

Whichever option you choose, I hope this guide helps you find the right place for your trip to Puglia!
