Known for its colorful cliffside towns, dramatic coastline, and incredible sea views, this part of Southern Italy attracts millions of visitors every year. Some come for luxury hotels and beach clubs, while others for scenic drives, boat trips, and the relaxed Italian atmosphere.
I’ve visited the Amalfi Coast several times over the years and stayed in different parts of the region. And one thing I quickly realized is that choosing where to stay here can completely change your trip.
Booking accommodation on the Amalfi Coast is not as simple as it may seem. Hotel prices are high, parking is difficult, distances feel longer than expected, and each town offers a different experience.

In this guide, I’ll help you decide where to stay on the Amalfi Coast and share my favorite hotels in Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello for different travel styles and budgets.
I’ll also show you what makes each town different and why it may be worth staying there. For each destination, I included a few recommended hotels that I’ve either chosen myself over the years or would happily choose for a future trip.
First, I’ll cover the most important things to know before booking. Then I’ll show you the best hotels in each town with a short introduction to each one. At the end of the article, you’ll also find some practical information about staying on the Amalfi Coast and planning your trip.
Quick overview: What to know before booking a hotel on the Amalfi Coast
- Best time to visit: April–June and September–October
- What to pay attention to most: Book early, because the best hotels sell out quickly. If you’re traveling by car, always check parking availability and hotel location before booking.
- Is it recommended to book in the town center? Only if you are not traveling by car.
- Parking: Very limited and often expensive. Many hotels don’t offer private parking, and some can only be reached on foot.
- Price level on the Amalfi Coast: $$$$ Very expensive, 3-star hotel: often above €200 per night, 4-star hotel: usually €300–1500 per night, 5-star hotel: €1000+ per night
- Cheaper accommodation options: You’ll usually find more affordable hotels outside the Amalfi Coast, especially toward Naples. Staying there and visiting the coast on day trips can be a good option if you’re traveling on a lower budget.
Where to stay on the Amalfi Coast: My favorite picks
Now let’s take a look at my selection of the best hotels on the Amalfi Coast that I think offer the best value for your stay.
I divided them into Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello to make choosing easier, because each town offers different pros and cons. Some hotels are perfect for luxury and iconic views, while others are better if you want a quieter atmosphere or slightly better value.
These are the places I would personally choose for an Amalfi Coast trip.
How to choose between Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello?
Positano
Positano is clearly the most expensive place to stay on the Amalfi Coast, but it also offers the most iconic experience. It’s easy to reach by car, bus, and ferry, and in my opinion, it has some of the most beautiful views on the entire coast. With its colorful houses, dramatic cliffs, and luxury atmosphere, it’s the perfect choice for couples, photographers, and anyone looking for a romantic stay with unforgettable sea views.
Amalfi
Amalfi is still one of the more expensive towns, but usually a bit more affordable than Positano. It’s easier to walk around because it’s less steep and has better overall infrastructure. I think it’s a great choice if you want to stay in a central location, enjoy beautiful sea views, and stay close to the water for boat trips and exploring the coast.
Ravello
Ravello is often one of the more affordable options among these three. Located high above the coast, it offers incredible panoramic views while feeling quieter and more relaxed. Even though it’s not directly on the sea, Amalfi can still be reached quickly by car or bus. I’d choose Ravello if you want great views and a more peaceful atmosphere at slightly lower prices and don’t mind relying a bit more on transportation.
My personal opinion: Where I would stay on the Amalfi Coast
If I had to choose based on my own travel style, this is what I would do:
- If it were my first trip and budget wasn’t a problem: Positano
- If I were planning a romantic or luxury trip: Positano
- If I were planning a beach holiday: Amalfi
- If I wanted to stay close to the coast for a better price: Ravello
- If I were traveling on a lower budget: Outside the Amalfi Coast, closer to Naples. We often choose this option ourselves and visit the coast on day trips.
Best places to stay in Positano
Although you’ll find endless hotel options in Positano, these are the places that I think are among the very best and that I’d personally recommend:
The absolute best hotel with the best views on the Amalfi Coast: Le Sirenuse
This is one of my personal favorites and honestly a dream place for content creators. This iconic 5-star luxury hotel offers some of the most beautiful views in Positano, with elegant local design and a stunning pool overlooking the coast.
It also has exceptional reviews and even offers a small private parking area, which is quite valuable here. The downside is the price, which is extremely high, so I’d only recommend it if you want the absolute best and are comfortable paying for it.
Modern luxury in Positano: Hotel Villa Franca
Another beautiful 5-star luxury hotel in Positano in a great location. Compared to the more famous hotels, this one has a more modern and minimalist style while still offering incredible views over the town.
There’s also a beautiful spa area and a sea view pool. It doesn’t have its own parking, only partner parking arrangements, so I’d recommend it more if you’re arriving without a car. It’s still expensive, but in my opinion slightly more realistic than some of the iconic ultra luxury hotels.
A more affordable option with amazing views: Alcione Residence
This became one of my favorite finds because I think it’s one of the best options if your priority is getting those classic Positano views.
It’s more of a residence style accommodation, but some rooms have incredible terrace views that honestly look unreal. The place itself is simpler than the surrounding luxury hotels, which also makes it more affordable.
Of course, this is still Positano, so don’t expect cheap prices. But compared to the location, views, and reviews, I think it offers really good value. One thing to know: it tends to sell out quickly.
A relatively budget friendly option in Positano: Casa Teresa
Compared to typical Positano prices, this is a genuinely more affordable place to stay.
It offers simple rooms in traditional local style, and some of them come with sea views. The location is a bit farther from the main attractions and can only be reached on foot, so I’d mainly recommend it if you’re not traveling by car and want a lower budget option while still staying in Positano.
Best places to stay in Amalfi
Amalfi is a great place to stay if you want the classic Amalfi Coast experience but at slightly lower prices than Positano.
These are the places that I think are among the best options in Amalfi town:
A luxury hotel just outside Amalfi: Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel
This stunning 5-star luxury hotel is one of my personal favorites in Amalfi. What makes it special is how beautifully it combines historic architecture with modern comfort, as the property was converted from a 13th-century monastery.
It offers breathtaking terraces, an incredible pool area, and amazing views over the coastline. It’s definitely not cheap, but in my opinion, it offers one of the best hotel experiences in Amalfi, so if your budget allows it, I’d confidently recommend it.
An elegant 4-star hotel near the waterfront and close to the center: Hotel Marina Riviera
A charming 4-star hotel located very close to Amalfi’s center, the harbor, and the beach.
It doesn’t have private parking, but the public parking area is nearby if you arrive by car, and it’s also very easy to reach by public transportation.
It has excellent reviews and a beautiful pool with sea views. This isn’t exactly a budget option, but considering the location, views, and overall experience, I think it’s a very good choice if you can fit it into your budget.
Relatively affordable rooms in the center: Core Amalfitano City Suites
A simpler accommodation option that feels roughly comparable to a good 3-star stay, located right in the center of Amalfi.
It’s only a short walk from the public parking area, beach, harbor, and the town’s main attractions.
This place earned a spot on my list mainly because of its location, reviews, and better pricing compared to many hotels nearby. I think it’s a great option if you want to stay in a central location in Amalfi and don’t mind choosing a simpler hotel.
Best places to stay in Ravello
Ravello is probably one of the most underrated towns on the Amalfi Coast. Unlike most places on the coast, it’s not located directly by the sea but high up on the hillside.
Because of this, it takes a little more effort to reach, but in return you get incredible panoramic sea views, a quieter atmosphere, and often slightly better prices while still staying close to the coast.
A five-star luxury hotel in Ravello: Palazzo Avino
A stunning 5-star luxury hotel in the center of Ravello with exceptional reviews and a great location close to the main attractions.
This place feels very elegant, with beautiful interiors and an impressive pool area overlooking the coast. It also has private parking, which is a big advantage if you arrive by car.
It’s definitely not cheap, but if you’re looking for a special and elegant stay and your budget allows it, I think it’s a great choice.
An iconic place to stay in Ravello: Hotel Villa Cimbrone
One of the most iconic places to stay in Ravello, located directly next to one of the town’s most famous landmarks, Villa Cimbrone.
The rooms may feel a little traditional at first, but the property itself is absolutely stunning. You’ll find breathtaking gardens, beautiful sea views, and a truly unique atmosphere.
Compared to many other 5-star hotels on the Amalfi Coast, I actually think the pricing can feel surprisingly reasonable. Parking isn’t available in this part of town though, so expect some walking.
A modern 4-star villa with beautiful views: Villa Piedimonte
A modern but elegant 4-star hotel located very close to the center of Ravello.
Parking is available, and there are also more parking options nearby compared to many other Amalfi Coast locations.
The rooms offer beautiful sea views, and in my opinion, this is one of the better choices if you want comfort and views without moving into full luxury hotel pricing.
Affordable rooms in Ravello with sea views: Gala Residence Villa Giovanna
A simpler accommodation option that feels roughly comparable to a good 3-star stay, located close to Ravello’s center.
It offers a beautiful sea view terrace, and some rooms also come with sea views. Private parking is available, and there are usually additional parking spaces nearby.
With excellent reviews and lower prices compared to much of the area, I think this is one of the best value places to stay near the Amalfi Coast.
Other places to stay on the Amalfi Coast
Besides the places above, if you’d prefer to stay somewhere else on the Amalfi Coast, these are a few hotels I’d also recommend:
Affordable five-star luxury in Vietri sul Mare: Hotel Raito
A beautiful 5-star hotel in Vietri sul Mare near Salerno. In my opinion, this is one of the best value luxury hotels on the Amalfi Coast.
So if you don’t mind staying a bit farther from places like Amalfi or Positano but still want a really special hotel, I’d seriously consider this one. I especially recommend it if you’re arriving by car, since the location feels calmer and less crowded.
You get amazing sea views, beautiful terraces, a pool, excellent reviews, and a wonderful atmosphere overall. If I personally wanted a luxury stay at a slightly smarter price point, this would probably be one of my top choices.
A comfortable 4-star stay in Agerola: Hotel le Rocce – Agerola, Amalfi Coast
A 4-star hotel located up in the hills in Agerola, close to Amalfi.
This is one of the most affordable hotels on this list and offers very good value for money. The biggest downside is that it works better if you arrive by car, because getting down to Amalfi or Positano can take more effort.
The hotel has excellent reviews, simpler rooms in line with the price category, some sea view rooms, a pool, and plenty of parking options.
A 3-star hotel in Praiano with beautiful views and more affordable prices: Hotel Costa Diva
A charming 3-star hotel in Praiano located close to the main coastal road between Positano and Amalfi.
This is a simpler hotel with traditional local interiors, but what really stands out are the terraces with incredible sea views.
Compared to many nearby hotels, prices are relatively reasonable, and I’d recommend it whether you travel by car or public transportation because the location is excellent.
One thing to know: parking spaces are limited, so if you arrive by car, I’d ask the hotel about parking in advance.
And a small bonus: the hotel restaurant sits under beautiful lemon trees and feels incredibly photogenic.
Where to stay near the Amalfi Coast
As I mentioned earlier, the Amalfi Coast is one of the more expensive areas in Southern Italy. If you want to keep accommodation costs lower, it may be worth staying a bit farther away toward Naples instead of staying directly in the most popular coastal towns.
We often choose this option ourselves and simply visit the Amalfi Coast towns as day trips. This gives us more flexibility and usually much better hotel prices.
Here are a few places I can recommend based on my own experience:
An elegant 4-star hotel in Portici near Naples: Hotel & Resort Tre Fontane Luxury
This was our choice multiple times, and we used it as a base for day trips to the Amalfi Coast.
It’s a very good value 4-star hotel in Portici near Naples that honestly feels closer to a 5-star experience. The rooms are beautiful, the interiors are modern, there’s a nice pool, a huge garage, and the breakfast is excellent.
I especially recommend it if you’re traveling by car and also want to explore other places around Naples.
If you’re looking for a stylish hotel in Sorrento: Hotel Plaza
A beautiful 4-star hotel right in the center of Sorrento and honestly one of my favorite hotels on this list.
It has gorgeous modern interiors with a unique design and amazing views over the Bay of Naples from the rooftop terrace and pool.
I wouldn’t recommend it as much for travelers arriving by car because they only offer partner parking instead of private parking. Since it’s located in the center in a very popular area, prices can be higher, but if you’re looking for a stylish stay in Sorrento, I think it’s a great option.
An affordable 4-star hotel in Vico Equense: Hotel Torre Barbara
We’ve stayed at this hotel before as well and used it as a base for day trips.
It’s a simpler 4-star hotel with traditional local style, private parking, and beautiful views over the Bay of Naples.
You can often find very good prices here compared to the Amalfi Coast itself. I think it’s an ideal option if you want to visit several places nearby, such as Sorrento, Capri, Naples, or the Amalfi Coast.
Common mistakes when booking a hotel on the Amalfi Coast
These are the mistakes I think are worth avoiding when planning your trip:
- Booking too late
Hotels on the Amalfi Coast sell out very quickly, often months in advance. If you want a good location and reasonable prices, book as early as possible. This is not the easiest destination for a last minute trip.
- Forgetting about parking
If you’re arriving by car, try to choose a hotel with private parking. Parking is limited, expensive, and some hotels only offer valet parking where cars are parked very close together.
- Staying too far outside the towns
If you have a car, staying farther away can work well. But if you’re using public transportation, I’d stay closer to the town centers to make getting around much easier.
- Underestimating the stairs
Almost all Amalfi Coast towns involve a lot of walking and stairs, especially Positano. Before booking, check carefully where your hotel is located compared to the main road.

After the hotels, here are a few more things worth knowing to make planning easier.
How to get to the Amalfi Coast
Most travelers arrive from Naples, or from Rome through Naples.
You can reach the Amalfi Coast by car, bus, or ferry.
- Car gives you the most flexibility, but it also comes with challenges. Parking is expensive, roads are narrow, traffic can be heavy, and some sections operate with alternate license plate restrictions on certain days.
- Bus is slower and less flexible, but still a comfortable and affordable option.
- Ferry can also be a great choice, especially in summer when connections are frequent from Naples and between the coastal towns. If you travel by ferry or bus, check luggage rules in advance.
We usually traveled by car ourselves, but honestly, it created a lot of extra complications. I’d only recommend it if flexibility is very important to you.
How many days should you stay on the Amalfi Coast?
If the Amalfi Coast is just one stop on a bigger Italy trip, I think 1–2 nights can already give you a good first impression.
If you want enough time to enjoy the beaches, towns, and a few boat trips without rushing, I’d say 3–4 nights is ideal.
If you prefer slower travel and want to fully enjoy the atmosphere, beach clubs, and long dinners with sea views, 5+ nights can be amazing.
Is it better to stay on the Amalfi Coast or visit as a day trip?
If you can find a good hotel and your budget allows it, I think staying directly on the Amalfi Coast is absolutely worth it.
But since accommodation prices are often much lower outside the coast, I also included hotels farther away. In many cases, you can stay in a nicer hotel for less money and simply visit the Amalfi Coast on day trips.
Is it worth renting a car on the Amalfi Coast?
Unless flexibility is your top priority, I honestly think a car creates more problems than advantages.
Mountain roads are narrow, restrictions are common, traffic can be heavy, and parking prices can feel unreasonable.
If possible, I’d recommend using buses, ferries, or private transfers instead. It usually makes the trip much more relaxed.
Other places to visit near the Amalfi Coast
If you have extra time, I’d also recommend adding some of these places to your Amalfi Coast itinerary:
- Sorrento: One of my favorite bases in Southern Italy with beautiful sea views, great food, and easy access to the Amalfi Coast.
- Capri: Famous for its dramatic cliffs, luxury atmosphere, and stunning boat views around the island.
- Procida: A quieter and more authentic island with colorful streets and a more local atmosphere.
- Pompeii: One of the most impressive historical sites in Italy and an easy day trip from the coast.
